    Kind words
    1. The kids ate as many cherry tomatoes as they picked, and the big ones tasted like summer used to.

    2. We took home a sauce box and a jar of relish, and spent Sunday making passata. Worth the drive from Auckland.
      Daniel K. · Google review · March 2026
    3. We came on a Tuesday morning and had a whole row to ourselves. Hannah showed the kids how to tell when each kind is ripe.

    Before you come

Five things to know before you drive out.

    • Dogs stay at home

      Guide dogs are welcome.

    • Bring a hat and sunscreen

There's little shade in the rows.

    • Lift, don't pull

Pulling snaps the vine, and the green ones come off with it.

    • Pick only the fully coloured ones

Each kind ripens to its own colour. The sign at the end of each row shows it.

    • Toilets are at the barn

There are none out in the field.

    FAQ

    Questions we get every day.

    Do I need to book?

No, just turn up. Groups of 15 or more, please book ahead.

    What happens if it rains?

We close in heavy rain, because wet tomatoes split. The top of this page says whether we're open by 7:30 each morning.

Can I buy tomatoes already picked?

Yes. The barn shop sells tomatoes picked that morning, $8 a kilo. Keep them on the bench, not in the fridge: they taste better.

Is it OK for prams and wheelchairs?

The main path is firm gravel and works for both. The rows themselves are narrow grass and harder going.

Can I pick green tomatoes for chutney?

Yes. From late March we open the last rows for green picking. Just ask at the barn.
